Holmfirth U11s Win first round of Cup!

Match report Holmfirth v Rastrick U11s

Holmfirth (121 -5) v Rastrick (67 - 9)

A great start to the Cup with a well-deserved victory and some fine individual performances.

Batting

Having won the toss Holmfirth decided to Bat first. Boris and Dan opened the batting and set the pace particularly Dan whose strong stroke play and placement of the ball earned him the batting man of the match. Good support running between the wicket from Boris ensured a good opening position.

A debut for Freya partnered with Sam continued the pace with Sam hitting 3 fine 4s and Freya hitting the boundary. There was an unlucky run out, which again reinforces the importance of backing up and calling the quick runs. (Something for all the players to work on still!) A good opening however with only 8 overs gone and 59 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
Another new debutant Rohan was partnered with Callum who defended well and guided him through his overs admirably against some tricky bowling. With only the loss of one more wicket it was a good start for Rohan. Make sure you continue to pick up ones and two’s it is important given the larger pitch and boundaries become more difficult to keep the score ticking over.
Connor and Sonny up next who again maintained the boundaries, but with a good catch another wicket was lost. Make sure to keep your eye on the ball and wait for the ball to come to you it will give you time to select your shot.
Freya and Jake next and with Jake hitting out for the only 6 of the game, Freya holding firm we finished the innings with a season high of 121 for 5

Bowling

Having set a strong target, Rastrick started at a good pace hitting 4s and 6s before our new debutant Freya got her first of 3 wickets and also the Bowler of the match. Slowing the scoring and partnering with Sam who also took two good wickets one of which was due to a fine catch behind the stumps from Dan. Callum again bowled very tidy with a maiden and wicket maiden as it did Rohan who is learning quickly and kept the wides to a minimum. Sonny on another day would have been the bowler of the game with his three wickets and was supported well by Connor who bowled two maidens and ensured runs were hard to get. Boris and Jake came back to finish the innings and showed some real pace and accuracy.

Overall in the field we are getting better each week. Remember however bowlers / captain to position your fielders according to your style / bowler. For spinners and slower bowlers they will try and hit you for the big shot to the boundary so place some of your fielders on the ropes ready for the catch.

A good result overall both with the bat and ball – Well done. Next round on Friday 26th here we come.
